Biography

My name is Mitchell Cox and I'm a Tulsa native. As a kid I loved playing sports with baseball being my favorite. Sports introduced me to weight training. During my years in high school I learned a lot about the basics of exercise but it wasn't until College that I really focused on weight training. During my college years I put on a significant amount of muscle (starting at 135 pounds and building up to 195 pounds). I fell in love with powerlifting and bodybuilding styles of training. It was during this time that I changed my major to Health and Human Performance because I realized that fitness is my calling in life. I got certified as a Personal Trainer with ACE and trained clients 1-on1 for a few years. I started practicing and teaching corrective exercise with my clients as a means of improving posture and reducing chronic pain. It was very fulfilling getting to help people with their health goals. After college I started working for Saint Francis Health Zone and have been there ever since. I love working at Saint Francis because it allows me to work on the clinical side of the fitness industry. I work with clients of all age groups although the majority are seniors with a variety of health considerations and limitations. This forces me to be creative when prescribing exercise routines around multiple modifications. While I love the exercise testing and prescription that I do at my current job, I am now back into personal training as well. I missed being able to work with clients through more than just the first step of their journey. It is more rewarding and useful to guide somebody through all of the steps needed to get in shape and achieve their health goals. I am passionate about fitness and I am a firm believer that it can drastically improve the quality of everybody's life. Outside of exercise, I enjoy fostering animals, traveling, gaming with friends, and watching to baseball games.
